host an event that will further secure Oamaru's reputation
as an emergent hot spot of Artistic, Cultural and Heritage
endeavours.
The
staging of such an event naturally bring the local community
together celebrating art, culture and Oamaru's limestone
heritage - at the same time attracting and embracing peoples
of other cultures and nationalities. It is an aim of the
Symposium to support and promote local business wherever
possible.
Up to 24 artists of local, national and international origin
will be invited to participate and we know from past
Symposia, the event is widely supported by the local
community. This year's event is timed to coincide with
and play a part in the annual Victorian Heritage
Celebrations, a combination we can be sure will
provide the people of Oamaru with a veritable feast of Art,
Culture and Heritage they can be proud of, and participate
in.
From 3rd
- 18th November 2007, Oamaru's central park, Takaro Park,
will be the site of the monumental event. Beginning with a
Welcoming Powhiri for all, the Symposium will conclude with
a weekend of sales, concurrent with the Victorian Heritage
Celebration of Arts, Culture and Heritage in which Oamaru's
stone plays an important role.
Sales may
be negotiated at any time before, during or after the
Symposium with a Silent Auction offered over the final
weekend.
